Head vase

Attic, circa 460–450 BC

Pottery, details in added white, traces of red pigments on mouth and nose.Oinochoe in form of a woman´s head with moulded eyes of the class S: The Canessa Class of Head Vases. Black glazed pottery for upper head, trefoil mouth, handle and a band at the base of the vase as well as for eyes, pupils and eyebrows. Several rows of stylized curls along the hair line. She wears a saccos decorated with a wreath of laurel leaves. Recomposed from two fragments. Vessel intact.
