Jug handle

Peloponnesian, circa 550 – 525

Bronze. Twisted and beaked oinochoe handle. Head of a woman with incised long tresses at the top of the handle. The headdress shaped into a thumb rest extending behind the head. To either side below the head a disc. Thumb rest and disc with incised decoration. The small gap between the discs indicates that it belonged to a beak-spouted oinochoe. The handle was attached with pins to the spout. Intact. Rare and impressive handle of fine state of preservation.
