Handle of a hydria

Greek, 5th century BC

Bronze. The base of the handle is decorated with the forepart of a siren with wings outspread, legs closed on a palmette from which volutes rise. The handle is fluted with a tongue pattern at the top end. Face of siren is a bit worn and tips of wings broken away.
