Lid of a vessel

Etruscan, 7th century BC

Red impasto. Lid in form of a knob in the shape of a vase with bulbous body. Rising from the body three stylized panther-heads with long curving necks attached to a disk top of the lid. The panther heads with open mouths and tongues thrust out between teeth; beady eyes. Two heads reattached, and one head reattached at knob.
