Oil lamp

Byzantine, 5th – 6th century AD
Bronze.
L 15.1 cm

Oil lamp decorated with a cross with knob like ends and concentric circles. A ring-handle at the rear with an extension up to the cross. Deep rounded body on a high base, tapering to an elongated nozzle-end. At the wick-hole and in the centre of the cross a loop, interconnected with a chain. A lid on the filling-hole. Intact, except for the broken hinge-piece of the lid.
